China Doll – I loved this one so much, I made a similar one for myself! Glittering navy blue Goldstone is complemented with transparent Indian Glass beads with a navy blue core, which have hand-painted swirls of rich coppery 22 carat rose gold, and accented by copper colored Rocaille beads. The centerpiece is a blue and white Chinese porcelain vase with coppery-colored Goldstone chip “flowers” in it. One tiny green bead represents the stems and leaves of the flowers.
The glimmering Goldstone is neither made of gold nor is it even a stone, but is a man-made glittering colored glass made by melting silica, borax, copper oxide, and other chemicals. But that doesn’t take away from its shimmering splendor!
Goldstone is smooth and polished with sparkling, reflective inclusions. Known by its coppery brown color, it comes in several other colors as well. It’s believed that Goldstone was created by Italian monks in the seventeenth century, although there are earlier records of Goldstone in twelfth century Persia (Iran), and in the Roman Empire about 2,000 years ago. It can be solidly traced to Venice and Vincenzo Miotti, who was tasked by the Venetian Doge (Duke) to create this gorgeous piece of glass.
In metaphysics, Goldstone is called the stone of ambition, as it’s thought to assist in attaining goals. Some consider Goldstone to be a symbol of ingenuity, ambition, and drive, and believe it to reduce tension, revitalize the wearer and encourage a positive attitude.
